UCLA Art Sci Center presents Zeynep Abes and the outcome of her residency STEAM Imaging IV at Fraunhofer MEVIS, the video installation MOMENTS WITHIN: Forgotten Feelings and False Memories.
Zeynep Abes, a Turkish media artist and graduate of UCLA’s Design Media Arts MFA program, explores themes of memory, identity, and perception through immersive video installation. Using publicly available 7-Tesla MRI brain scans, the work visualizes the cerebral vascular system as dreamlike landscapes in 3D space, reflecting on memory deterioration and Alzheimer’s disease.
STEAM Imaging IV was hosted by Fraunhofer MEVIS in collaboration with Ars Electronica, the International Fraunhofer Talent School Bremen, School Center Walle, and the UCLA Art Sci Center.
The exhibition also included the online panel “Memory & Perception – Neuroscience & Art,” featuring discussions on memory and new approaches to diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease.
